The Karate Club “OLYMP” was created in 1984 by Sensei MALIN MALINOV. A couple of years earlier it existed as a “Go Ju Riu” Karate section of the club “BAGATUR”, which was developing in two directions: KUNG-FU under the leadership of Doryan Alexandrov who was also the President and KARATE, lead by Sensei Malinov. Later on in 1984, as we have already mentioned, the Karate Club “OLYMP” separates as an independent club with about 300 karatekas.

The first touch with a great master was during the seminar with Sensei ROLAND HABERSETZER – VIII dan in “Go Ju Riu” and an expert in “HUN-GAR” style of KUNG-FU. It was after that seminar that Sensei Malinov was officially admitted as a member of the Worldwide Organization “Centre Recherche – BUDO” lead by Sensei Habersetzer. In the beginning the trainings were focused on traditional “Go Ju Riu” Karate and contact kumite. After the establishment of the BNKF – KARATE DO the club became its member and according to the Federation’s rules started developing the sport-style karate. The methodical trainings of the kata and kumite competitors is consistent to the WUKU Charter. One part of the good competitors who grew-up and matured in the club are licensed as instructors and sempais. There are seven karatekas who have covered all the requirements and have got black belts.

The club activity develops in several directions: the beginners’ group is divided as for children and for adults; along with that the 2nd grouping consists of advanced group and the group for high sport mastership. The late are the most notable karatekas who compete in kata and kumite and carry with honour the name of the club. Until now the club has won more than 300 medals, cups and diplomas in home and international competitions and tournaments. It takes an active part in the sport events calendar of the Federation. There are many competitors with 3 or 4 Republican titles; they are: Denitsa Kirilova, Sonya Spasova, Ilian Kirilov, Ivan Panayotov, Bella Staneva, Lili Doneva, Irena Garneva, Irina Gorolomova, Lachezar Tsvetanov, Martin Martinov, Philipp Afonkin, Nadezhda Bedzhova, Svetoslav Ivanov, Dobroslav Uzunov, Pavel Aripiev, Stefan Malinov (the son of the Sensei).
